An Interview with Sam

I had my friend Harper interview me, because press interviews always miss the point.

Harper: So, introduce yourself to your fans.
Samantha: Hi, I'm Samantha Parkington.  You might know me as the Princess of Monaco.  I'm 19 years old and my birthday is October 29.  My favorite color is maroon.
Harper: What is your favorite band?
Samantha: For awhile my favorite band was Maroon 5, because I love maroon and I love their first album.  I wasn't too into their second album though.  Right now I really like the Weepies.
Harper: Is there a specific style of music you like?
Samantha: I really like folksy, acoustic guitar music.  I'm also weird and like the total opposite - rock.  But, I'll listen to pretty much anything.
Harper: Why are you attracted to guitar music?
Samantha: Why, I thought you'd never ask!
Harper: Like you didn't say "we have to cover the guitar in my interview" five minutes ago.
Samantha: Whatever.  I love guitar music because I play guitar.  I also sing and write my own songs.  It's something I'm really passionate about.  I would like to release an album someday.  I had a small release when I was about 14, but I want to do things the hard way.  Like, appeal to record companies in person with my demo CD and hope they have no idea who I am.  My first album was too produced and I think if I did it myself, I'd have more freedom.
Harper: Speaking of that, how does being a princess affect your life?
Samantha: I know that everything I do is going to be watched.  Usually, I'm okay with that.  I mean privacy would be nice!  But, I love that girls in my country look up to me and I view it as a challenge to be a positive role model.  I also love that I have the opportunity to make a huge difference in the world.  I hope to use my position to do a lot of charity and activist work like Princess Diana.  Not just donating money either; I like actually going out there and serving people.  Oh, another thing is I'm not going to inherit the throne or anything like that, so I'll be able to get a "real" job too.  Oh and I get to travel a lot; I love traveling!!
Harper: And what do you want to do?
Samantha: I think I either want to be a teacher or I want to do something with international relations.  Like be the UN representative for my country or something like that.
Harper: What's it like going to school in the US?
Samantha: I have a lot of great friends; I think going to school in the US has been great because most people don't know who I am, compared to Europe.  I have a pretty normal life over here.  And that's really who I am... I'm not a big deal.
Harper: What is a common misconception people have of you?
Samantha: The press always calls me the "Heartbreak Princess" because I had a very public break up when I was like, thirteen, and then because my parents died.  I mean, no, I don't have a perfect life by far even though it seems that way.  But I really think they don't get my personality.  I'm one of the happiest people I know.  Also I think break-ups in middle school are totally irrelevant to the rest of your life...
Harper: Going back to charity work that you mentioned, what are you doing now?
Samantha: I'm currently working on this project to help people learn to write timed essays.  It drives me crazy.  Actually we're doing that together, so... well I just thought I'd mention it for the blog!  I also love volunteering for local politics.  It's fun.  And I'm involved in this organization that sends mosquito nets to African countries.  I really want to do, like, things where you travel around the world and work with local people after I graduate.
Harper: What are your other hobbies besides guitar?
Samantha: I like reading.  I journal.  I go to church... oh, I like scrapbooking too.
Harper: What's your take on Taylor Swift?
Samantha: Oh gosh, I knew that would come up!
Harper: What????
Samantha: UGH!  Well, you and Cate are super-obsessed with her.  I have to admit, her music is addicting. I don't have a problem with it.  I actually like some of her songs.  I just don't really like singing country so that's why I never play them for you.
Harper: You need to learn to like playing them!!

That's it for now!  If you have questions for me, post them below!!
